Migraine service - all you need to know

Patients who are over 18 but under 65, have been diagnosed with migraines before and have migraines with or without aura.

The exact cause of migraines is still unknown, but you’re more likely to get them if a close family member also gets them.
Factors known to trigger migraines include:
Menstruation - before or during your period
Anxiety and depression
Stress and tiredness
Irregular eating patterns or skipping meals
Too much caffeine
Lack of exercise

There are three types of migraines with different symptoms:
Migraine without aura - these have no warning signs
Migraine with aura - these have warning signs (e.g. seeing zigzag lines, numbness or tingling, feeling dizzy or difficulty speaking.)
Silent migraine - this is a migraine aura without a headache, you may see flashing lights.

Just before you have a migraine you may feel -
fatigue
food cravings or thirst
mood changes
a stiff neck
peeing more
You may also experience aura symptoms, such as:
problems with your sight, such as seeing zigzag lines or flashing lights
numbness or a tingling that feels like pins and needles
feeling dizzy
difficulty speaking
