Hair loss service - all you need to know
-
We lose between 50 - 100 hairs a day on average, so hair loss isn’t typically something to worry about.
There are cases where hair loss is permanent, such as male pattern baldness.
Some cases are temporary, and can be caused by:
an illness
stress
cancer treatment
weight loss
thyroid problems
iron deficiency
-
When you arrive, our pharmacist will start with a brief consultation to review your medical history and ensure the treatment is safe for you. This will take place in a private, confidential setting.
Based on your medical history, the pharmacist will recommend the most suitable treatment.
-
If you notice an excessive amount of hair on your pillow, shower or bath, or when styling your hair, it could indicate an underlying condition.
A receding hairline, a thinning crown or general thinning throughout the top area of the head are common signs of male pattern baldness. Male pattern baldness doesn’t affect the sides or back of the hair.
-
Temporary hair loss is often reversible, particularly when treated early. However, male/female pattern baldness and cicatricial alopecia, in most cases is not reversible, though they can be managed and slowed with medical or cosmetic treatments.
-
The treatment is not suitable for individuals who:
have a prostate condition or prostate cancer
are under 18 years old
are female
have galactose intolerance, total lactase deficiency or glucose-galactose malabsorption
