MenACWY vaccination service - all you need to know
-
This vaccination service is suitable for anyone who needs protection against meningococcal ACWY strains.
It is especially recommended for individuals attending Hajj or Umrah, as proof of vaccination is required for entry into Saudi Arabia.
It’s also suitable for travellers to regions with a higher risk of meningococcal disease or anyone advised by a healthcare professional to receive the vaccine.
-
When you arrive, a trained clinician will carry out a short consultation to confirm the vaccine is suitable for you. They will ask about your medical history, allergies, and any current medications.
Once everything is confirmed, the vaccine will be given as a quick injection, usually into the upper arm.
Afterward, you’ll be asked to stay in the pharmacy for around 15 minutes so we can make sure you feel well before leaving.
Once vaccinated, you will receive a certificate of vaccine administration, which is required for entry into Saudi Arabia for Hajj and Umrah pilgrims, as well as seasonal workers.
-
This vaccine isn’t suitable for anyone who has previously had a severe allergic reaction to the Meningitis ACWY vaccine or any of its ingredients.
If you are currently moderately or severely ill with a high fever, please postpone vaccination until after you have recovered.
-
Most side effects of the MenACWY vaccine are mild and do not last long.
They can include:
a reaction where the injection was given, such as pain, swelling or itchiness
headache
feeling sick (nausea)
a rash
feeling irritable
feeling drowsy
loss of appetite
generally feeling unwell
