Ear infections caused by colds and flu can’t always be prevented, but it is possible to reduce the risk by:
Ensuring your child receives all routine vaccinations
Avoiding exposure to smoke
Not inserting cotton buds or fingers into the ears
Keeping water and shampoo out of the ears during bathing
Using earplugs or a swim cap when swimming
Managing conditions that affect the ears, such as eczema or allergies to hearing aids
Limiting dummy use after 6 months of age

During the consultation, our pharmacists will assess your symptoms. If you are eligible for the NHS Pharmacy First service, we can offer treatment for your ear infection, such as:
Ear drops
Antibiotic tablets
Prescription charges apply unless you qualify for free NHS prescriptions.
Our pharmacists may suggest alternatives or refer you to another healthcare service if you are ineligible for Pharmacy First or the recommended options aren’t suitable.
