University Vaccines & Student Health
If you’re heading to university or planning a gap year, our pharmacy offers expert guidance and a range of services to help protect you from common illnesses in student accommodation and travel destinations.
University Vaccines & Student Health - all you need to know
-
This service includes the main vaccines the NHS for students before starting university:
Meningitis B
Meningitis ACWY
MMR catch-up
Travel vaccines for gap year
-
This service is recommended for students before they leave for university or travelling on their gap year.
-
When you arrive, a trained clinician will carry out a short consultation to confirm the vaccines you need and are suitable for you. They will ask about your medical history, allergies, and any current medications.
Once everything is confirmed, the vaccine will be given as a quick injection, usually into the upper arm.
Afterward, you’ll be asked to stay in the pharmacy for around 15 minutes so we can make sure you feel well before leaving.
We’ll also provide aftercare advice and answer any questions you may have about the vaccination.
-
University halls bring many people into close proximity which increases the risk of infectious illness. The NHS and UCAS recommend you get any vaccines you have missed before leaving for university so that you can build up protection and prevent the spread of infection.
This service also includes vaccinations for those travelling on their gap year. After consultation our pharmacists will determine which vaccines are best to ensure you stay protected against diseases uncommon in the UK but may be prevalent at your destination.
